Welcome to my very first blog. It seems that EVERYONE has a blog of some sort and I decided that it's time for me to join the bandwagon!
I could blog about health seeing as that has always been a huge part of my life. I'm sure there will be the occasional health post but I have decided to do a blog about something I love....Food. I am a diabetic and in an effort to gain weight I was advised NOT to follow a diabetic diet. I just had to inject loads of insulin when I consumed any sugar. While this kind of worked, I was forever trying to calculate how much insulin to give myself and try maintain a normal glucose level. When you glucose levels are high you cannot absorb the sugars and it in turn encourages weight loss. So now I have decided to give up all carbs and increase my fat intake so that I don't lose weight. Yes, I am on a paleo diet to try and GAIN weight.
If you are not familiar with this new diet craze then where have you been? The paleo is basically a low carbohydrate, high fat diet which is a theory Professor Tim Noakes has controversially stood by. The word 'Paleo' comes from 'Palaeolithic' which refers to an older or ancient geological past. The paleo diet is also referred to as Banting, which is the orginial name linked to a 3.5mil year old diet. So the theory is, if we eat as cave men once did and not consume all the processed carbohydrates available today, we will be as healthy as the cave man was! Tim Noakes has released a new cook book called 'The real meal revolution' which I plan on acquiring and testing out some of the recipes.
