Alice In Wonderland

My very good friend Alice celebrated her 30th birthday on the 31st August and decided to have an Alice In Wonderland themed picnic at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens in Roodeport.
I'd never beed to the gardens and was very excited to see it as I've always heard such great things about it. It really didn't disappoint! R35 gets you into this amazing place and there is just so much to see - if you're a nature lover like myself.

Luckily we got lost  trying to find Alice's picnic spot so we spent a good hour walking around (as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum) exploring all the beauty that the gardens had to offer.

One of the main attractions at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens is the the waterfall, the cliffs of which are home to a breeding pair of Verreaux’s Eagles.

Not my photo
There are so many paths, bridges, pools of water and a huge variety of plants to be seen. As I said, we walked around for about an hour and probably only touched on half of what there was to see.

There's also a restaurant called Eagles Fare which looks lovely and offers a Sunday buffet lunch.

Alice had scouted a great little picnic spot the month before, so we were tucked away in a peacful corner of the gardens where she had set up her wonderland.

Alice and I
Alice had organised some delicious food and drinks for us and we all had such a nice relaxed afternoon together. Of course the cake stole the show on the food table, it was designed by Annell De Wit, along with the cupcakes, and was absolutely spectacular - as all her cakes are!

Aice had her double lung transplant quite some time ago, and while all 30th celebrations are special, it makes it even more special when you see someone like Alice, who has fought so hard to get to where she is today. I was so honoured to be a part of her day and I am so glad that through our transplant journeys, we met and have become friends. There's always good things that come out of bad experiences and Alice is definitely one of the people I am grateful to have met when I was sick.

Thank-you Alice for including me in your birthday celebrations, I hope you had an amazing day and I wish you MANY more happy years!
