Joburg's best low carb options

As we're nearing the end of another amazing year, I thought I' quickly just share my top few low carb meals I've had this year. There are so many healthy alternatives now that really, we are left with very few excuses to choose junk foods. I am diabetic and insulin depended and so I try and have as little sugar (carbs) in my diet as possible. This means that I can inject myself with less insulin which, for a needle phobic like myself, is a HUGE incentive. The other benefits include maintaining a healthy weight and just generally being a healthier happier human.

Kream

Last week I and a few other foodies were treated to a night out at KREAM in Pretoria. I had heard of this restaurant a while ago and have been wanting to try it but Pretoria is a little out of my way and so I never got around to visiting them. A big thank-you to Zomato for the invite!

Come Wine With Us

2 weeks ago I joined Come wine with us at Doppio Zero Pineslopes with KWV Brandy's finest portfolio ranging from the NEW Cruxland Gin as well as the "Worlds best Brandy" which is their exceptional 20 year old brandy. We were also treated with a 3 course menu that was paired with the KWV reserve wine Range.

No-Bake Berry Cheesecakes

Earlier in the year I attended a media breakfast at Fresh Earth and absolutely fell in love with this little one stop health shop and cafe. The folks over at Fresh Earth were kind enough to offer me some ingredients to make a diabetic friendly cake for my birthday. Unfortunately with my broken foot I didn't manage to get to them in time and so I decided to make some little cheesecakes over the weekend instead.

#4thStreetParty

Daniella and I were lucky enough to receive an event to the 4th street party which took place at the rand airport on Thursday the 25ht of June. I attended the party last year and it was one of the best events of the year. (Read the blog post HERE). This year the Girl About Town agency organised the party once again and it was such a fantastic event.

Zomato at Escondido

So as you may have noticed, I have really been neglecting my blog lately. This is not due to a lack of things to blog about but rather due to a lack of time. "I just don't have any time" is a fairly poor excuse as I believe that if you really want to do something you will make time. So basically, I have just been lazy and I'm sorry!

Monday, 23 March 2015

So for the past 2 weeks I have been a guniea-pig with this glucose monitoring device in my arm. Initially my endocrinologist wanted to put the casino token sized 'button' into my arm just before my lungaversary but I explained that I had planned to wear a cute dress to my party and couldn't possibly have it in my arm. So, I went back on the Monday and had it inserted.

2nd Lungaversary

Sometimes having a transplant is compared to having a baby. It's a scary process that changes your life for the better. After having a baby/transplant every decision you make is based on what is best for your new lungs/baby. They become more important than you. My lungaversary is definitely more special than my birthday. My birthday celebrates the day I was born but my transplant celebrates the day my life began. That's not to say that I didn't have a life before transplant, I most certainly did and made the most out of everything I could. However, life was hard and having to suffer daily didn't allow the true 'me' to come out. Now, I am who I was always meant to be and I beleive that my new lungs and I were always destined to be togther.

Zomato meet-up at Moyo (Melrose Arch)

Last week Zomato treated me and a few other foodies to a dinner at Moyo in Melrose Arch. I had a lovely time, as usual, and was very impressed in general with Moyo. With all the new and exciting restaurants popping up all the time I think people have forgotten about places like Moyo who really do put out a good spread and are definitey worth visiting!

Life Expectancy

Before my transplant, no one really asked me what my life expectancy was. It was just a socially unacceptable question to ask someone who was dying. My doctors also didn't discuss it with me as we all knew the answer all too well. The answer was "any day".

New hair

For a woman, having nice hair makes you feel great - going to the hairdresser is an experience that we look forward to and it always lifts our spirits.

#ZomatoXMetro

This week I was invited to the first Zomato foodie meet up of 2015. It was so nice to see old faces and meet the new ones. Zomato is growing so fast and they are hiring at an incredible rate - If you're a Zomato fan I suggest you keep an eye out on positions in this company. Such an amazing brand to work for and the team is awesome!

Ma Cherie Nails

I recently had my nails done at Ma Cherie Nails  and I absolutely love them!! It was SO hard trying to decide what to get, the ladies at the salon are incredible and can do anything so making a decision on what you want done is so difficut!
